Thank you for trying out this demo of F1 2002. Whilst this is very much a work in progress demo and there is still a lot of tweaking, polishing and even a few features yet to be worked out in full with regards to the finished game, we hope you will enjoy what you find and appreciate the efforts that have gone into providing a pre-release insight to the final game.
Please note the following major features have been ommitted intentionally in order to reduce the size of the demo:
Driving School, Championship & Multiplayer Game Modes
All circuits except Australia, Albert Park WIP.
All teams/vehicles except Ferrari, McLaren, Williams & Sauber WIP.
Music.
Speech.
Movies.
Telemetry.
Replays.
Character Animation.
Also note that for a few features, Telemetry being a good example, we have left icons visible within the UI that will have no effect when you click on them. We decided to do this rather than remove all non-functional features/icons in order that you can see better the features that will be accessible and fully functional within the finished game.

2. Place the F1 2002 Demo CD in the CD drive.
3. Browse the F1 2002 Demo directory and run either F1 2002 Demo.exe or Autorun.exe to begin the installation program.
4. The installation program adds a program group called EA SPORTS\F1 2002 Demo to your Start\Programs menu, and a shortcut to your desktop (optional). Click on this shortcut or alternatively click on the start button on your Windows task bar. Under Programs\EA SPORTS\F1 2002 Demo select F1 2002 Demo to play.
If using Microsoft Windows 2000, XP Pro/Home, you must have administrator rights in order to install and subsequently run F1 2002 Demo. If you have administrator rights, and wish to give a "limited user" administrator rights, you can do this in "Users" section of the Windows Control Panel.
DIRECTX
=======
This demo requires DirectX 8.1 or higher to be installed. This is not included with the F1 2002 demo in order to reduce size. If Direct X 8.1 is not included on the disk from which you received this demo on, it can be downloaded from Microsoft at: http://www.microsoft.com/directx/
DirectX8.1 and supported hardware
We recommend that F1 2002 Demo be run with DirectX compatible sound cards and video cards. While there is a chance that the F1 2002 Demo will run with non-DirectX compatible hardware, you may find that:
i) Sound quality suffers.
ii) The game runs slower.
iii) The game does not run at all.
If your sound card or video card does not support DirectX 8.1, please contact your hardware vendor.
UNINSTALL
=========
To uninstall the F1 2002 Demo go to Programs\EA SPORTS\F1 2002 Demo in the Start menu. Click on Uninstall F1 2002 Demo to proceed. Alternatively, click on the Start menu, select Settings and then Control Panel. Now find Add/Remove Programs and click to run. Scroll down the list until you see F1 2002 Demo, select it and click on Add/Remove to uninstall.
Note that is normal for any files created by players such as save games, replays, and vehicle setups to be left on your hard drive in the game folder after the uninstall process. Should you not wish to keep these files, simply delete them as you would normally delete files from your PC.
3DCONFIG
=========
For systems equipped with 3D video accelerators, it is highly recommended that the latest versions of all video drivers be obtained and installed.
A configuration utility called "3DConfig" is installed with F1 2002 Demo. When you install and play the game for the first time, "3DConfig automatically asks you to confirm the default selection, and normally users will find this selection satisfactory.
3DConfig is provided for the following unusual cases:
i) You have installed or removed video devices
ii) You have more than one supported 3D accelerator installed
iii) The default rendering interface has failed
3DConfig will test your system for the presence of supported video devices (this may be accompanied by a black screen flash on your monitor). When 3DConfig appears, click the OK button to select the default video device, or choose an alternative 3D accelerator and/or rendering resolution by clicking on it and then clicking OK. If an unsupported video device is detected you will be informed that this is the case.

TROUBLE SHOOTING
================
Users of video cards supporting the ATI Rage or Radeon chips may notice the mouse cursor flickering in the front end of the game. This is a known issue and the game will function normally apart from this.
When running the F1 2002 Demo we recommend that your video card setting in Windows Display Properties is set to 16 bit colour depth.
If you increase the settings of your display options and experience graphical problems and/or decreased performance and have the latest drivers, we recommend setting your Display options back to their defaults.
Users should also be aware that at resolutions above 800x600 the frame-rate may drop significantly, as such we do not recommend running the F1 2002 Demo in resolutions above 800x600 and/or with hardware features such as 4x anti-aliasing enabled (only really feasible on fast 64mb+ cards, eg NVIDIA GeForce 3) unless you have 256 MB of ram and your AGP aperture size set up correctly (a good place to start would be to set it to 128MB and then experiment to find the optimum setting for your PC).
Note: If your system has less memory than that specified for the aperture, AGP applications will run in available memory.
If you are unfamiliar with this terminology or are not confident in your ability to modify your AGP aperture size, we do not recommend you attempt this process. Due to the potential harm possible from incorrectly modifying settings in your BIOS, Electronic Arts Customer Support cannot be held responsible for any problems encountered from doing this and are unable to assist you in modifying this setting on your system.
While the F1 2002 demo has been tested on an extensive range of sound cards, and should work without problems - we have noticed issue's on some low end PC's (P2-400) and/or in some cases high end machines with V-Sync enabled where the intro and subsequent movies may slow down and/or stutter. This does not affect game play and can be bypassed by pressing <Escape> while the movie is playing.
Certain game controllers may not be detected consistently by your operating system. In any case that you are unable to get a certain game controller to function first check that the controller is reported to be OK under your operating system. If the controller is reported as OK then ensure that you have it selected under Options. If the controller still fails to respond once selected, enter the Controls page from Options and remap the controls for your device as described in the manual.
Not all visual or audio events are saved when replays are recording. Furthermore, viewing the same replay multiple times may lead to visual inaccuracies particularly with regards to damage.
If you have problems with saving and recording replays, it's possible that you will need to free up some hard drive space to accommodate the data saved as you play the game. For best performance, it is recommended that there is at least 500Mb free hard drive space available.
Regardless of the active player, all replay files (.VCR) are saved into the VCR directory where you have installed the game. If multiple players are playing on one machine, in order to avoid having a players replay files overwritten by other users you should ensure that you rename any files you wish to keep using the functionality provided from the Replays screen.
On some video cards, you may encounter problems using Windows multi-task keys (Alt-Tab etc.) to switch between the F1 2002 Demo and other active applications. This is because the F1 2002 Demo is highly demanding on video memory, therefore we strongly recommend against any form of Windows multi-tasking.
